What is "No Fault" Insurance?

No-fault insurance is a mandatory type of insurance that Florida requires all motor vehicle owners to carry, and it provides you, the insured, with access to $10,000 of benefits. It’s there to help pay for medical care, lost wages, other out of pocket expenses you incur as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Important things to keep in mind in order to preserve your full $10,000 worth of benefits, is that you must be seen within 14 days of the crash in order to have those benefits. If you wait until 15 days, then you don’t get the benefit of any of that money. The other consideration is that you be seen by an MD or a DO at some point, who can diagnose you with an emergency medical condition. Otherwise, the insurance companies can cut your benefits at the $2,500 mark, and so you’re missing out on $7,500 worth of benefits that you’ve been paying premiums on all along.
