What is a Permanent Injury?

Answer:

A permanent injury is a diagnosis made by a physician with regard to a whole body impairment following a traumatic event, like a car crash or slip and fall. The typical format would be a percentage impairment (ie: the victim, over his entire body, has a 20% permanent deficit since the crash due to limitations, objective findings, etc.) A permanent impairment rating follows established and published medical guidelines. A permanent impairment rating is necessary under Florida law to allow for recovery of future medical treatment costs, future lost wages, as well as pain and suffering to anyone injured in a car crash, slip and fall, or other traumatic incident.
